At the core of House in Murcia's design philosophy lies the use of natural materials. Wood and travertine serve as the foundation for a visual narrative that speaks of earthy tones and textures. The design team envisioned the house as a collection of travertine planes, layered like geological strata, creating a sense of organic progression and unity throughout the space. This approach not only ensures aesthetic harmony but also fosters a connection between the inhabitants and the natural world.

Manuel Garcia Asociados faced the challenge of integrating the house into a landscape dominated by modern, white facades. Their solution was a horizontal, material-centric structure that forges its own identity while respecting its context. The ground floor's open-plan design dissolves the boundaries between interior and exterior, inviting the Mediterranean climate indoors. Upstairs, the private quarters offer seclusion and panoramic views, with terraces that extend the living space into the open air.

The design's realization hinged on the strategic selection of materials. The use of travertine-effect porcelain tiles and wood laminate ceilings was not only an aesthetic choice but a nod to durability and sustainability. These materials were chosen for their longevity and minimal environmental impact, aligning with the region's ecological ethos. The sparing use of vegetation in the landscape design further underscores a commitment to water conservation, a pressing issue in the province.

With a constructed area of 225 m2 on a 440 m2 plot, the House in Murcia stands as a testament to efficient use of space. The design team, including Manuel Garcia, Belen Moratalla, and Nikola Lazurova, crafted a home that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. The interplay of horizontal planes throughout the structure, from the entrance to the staircase, creates a sense of levitation and continuity, enhancing the home's modern appeal.

The project's two-year journey from conception to completion culminated in 2022, with a design that respects its initial volumetric conception while elevating its materiality. The result is a home that is not only a comfortable living space but also a reflection of the client's desire for a bright yet warm interior, achieved through the thoughtful use of stone materials.

House in Murcia's excellence in design has not gone unnoticed. The project received the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category in 2024, a testament to its innovative approach and commitment to enhancing quality of life.
